MORIHEI UESHIBA (O' SENSEI)

MORIHEI UESHIBA: FOUNDER OF AIKIDO

Aikido has long been considered an effective defensive art that builds strength, endurance, substantial self-defense skills and character. It is practiced by millions worldwide.
At Riverside Aikido, great emphasis is placed on clean, precise and powerful technique, weapons skills (Jo and Bokken) and fluid Ukemi (the art of the fall or “getting out of the way.”) Through the practice of Aikido, one can attain self-discipline, improved posture, physical strength and awareness, a more relaxed and limber body, and a heightened sense of well-being. Aikido can be learned and practiced by both men and women, young and old, weak and strong. All who apply themselves will receive benefit.
The self-defense techniques of Aikido are based on the use of an opponent’s body weight and movements against him. If properly developed, these simple techniques can be devastating.
Aikido skills are a distillation of several ancient Japanese martial arts, primarily Jiujitsu, Kendo and Iaido (the art of drawing the sword.) And unlike many other martial arts, students of Aikido who practice diligently together over time will develop compassion, humility and self-control.
Riverside Aikido is the only dojo in Riverside or San Bernardino County that offers consistent training in Aikido, Jo and Bokken.
Riverside Aikido is a proud affiliate of the United States Aikido Federation.
