Poem: Ecstasy of Practice
By James Sawers, Oak Park Aikikai
Ecstasy of practice
I enter and bow
The dojo bows back
Gi and hakama
The vestments of practice
Dojo bell rings, thrice
I touch my partner
We move and revolve
Around a common center
Kimusubi, seeking a union
We part!
And do it again and again
Each time, each partner
Different, different
Yet always seeking the same
The transcendence of transparency
That comes with
Abandoned practice
Abandoning thought and intent
Entering the flow
That is always there
Accepting the moment
And entering into nothingness
I am gone
My partner is gone
Effort and struggle disappear
Clap! Clap!
Practice ends
But the ecstasy of practice
Lingers....
